The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

These individuals take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

The knowledge components of this course are delivered through a self-paced online format using our Learning Management System (LMS). This approach allows you to access learning materials, complete activities, and engage with your studies at a time that suits your individual circumstances.

Workplace Based Component

Workplace-based learning is a mandatory component of this qualification and is required to meet training package requirements. Students must complete practical learning and assessment activities in a real workplace environment relevant to disability or community services.

  • Placement in a disability support or community care setting
  • Practical tasks and assessments contextualised to leaenr’s indivudual needs and industry
  • A minimum of 245 hours of workplace-based learning  (Note – this duration reflects Risen Star College’s delivery approach, providing extended exposure to real workplace environments to support the development and demonstration of competency in the complex and evolving community services sector

NDIS Support Worker

Home Care Support Worker

This qualification is presented in an accommodating and flexible blended learning approach, integrating self-paced online learning with scheduled workplace training. This delivery method enables students to manage study around personal and work commitments, and acquire the actual care skills in genuine care environments.

  • Ongoing monitoring of student progress and scheduled academic support where required

Theory components may be undertaken prior to, or alongside, workplace-based learning to support the application of skills in a practical setting.


Workplace-Based Learning

Workplace-based learning is a mandatory component of this qualification and is required to meet training package requirements. Students are required to complete practical learning and assessment activities in a real workplace environment relevant to disability or community services.

Includes:

  • A minimum of 245 hours of workplace-based learning
  • Conducted in a disability support or community care setting
  • Practical tasks and assessments aligned to unit requirements

Risen Star College provides guidance to support students in identifying suitable workplace opportunities; however, placement is not guaranteed.


Pre-Placement Requirements

Prior to commencing workplace-based learning, students may be required to obtain the following (as applicable to the workplace):

  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • National Police Check
  • Evidence of required vaccinations (e.g. Influenza, COVID-19, as required by the workplace)
  • Training in infection control and manual handling

Workplace Assessment and Work Placement

Workplace-based assessment is a key component of this qualification, allowing students to apply and demonstrate the knowledge and skills developed during their online learning in a real work environment.

  • Completion of compulsory workplace hours as specified in the course
