Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

The knowledge components of this course are delivered through a self-paced online format using our Learning Management System (LMS). This approach allows you to access learning materials, complete activities, and engage with your studies at a time that suits your individual circumstances.

  • Self-paced online learning via a secure Learners Management System, LMS
  • Digital learning materials, activities, and knowledge-based assessments
  • Access to trainer support via phone, email, or video conferencing
  • Ongoing monitoring of student progress, with academic support provided where required

Workplace Based Component

Workplace-based learning is a mandatory component of this qualification and is required to meet training package requirements. Students must complete practical learning and assessment activities in a real workplace environment relevant to disability or community services.

Includes:

  • Placement in a disability support or community care setting
  • Practical tasks and assessments contextualised to leaenr’s indivudual needs and industry
  • A minimum of 210 hours of workplace-based learning  (Note – this duration reflects Risen Star College’s delivery approach, providing extended exposure to real workplace environments to support the development and demonstration of competency in the complex and evolving community services sector

This qualification is presented in an accommodating and flexible blended learning approach, integrating self-paced online learning with scheduled workplace training. This delivery method enables students to manage study around personal and work commitments, and acquire the actual care skills in genuine care environments.

Study the knowledge components of this course online through a flexible, self-paced format designed to suit your individual schedule. Learning is delivered via our learning management system (LMS), providing access to structured resources and trainer support throughout your studies.

Includes:

  • Self-paced online learning via a secure LMS
  • 15 nationally recognised units of competency (9 core and 6 electives)
  • Digital learning materials, activities, and knowledge-based assessments
  • Access to trainer support via phone, email, or video conferencing
  • Ongoing monitoring of student progress and scheduled academic support where required

Theory components may be undertaken prior to, or alongside, workplace-based learning to support the application of skills in a practical setting.


Workplace-Based Learning

Workplace-based learning is a mandatory component of this qualification and is required to meet training package requirements. Students are required to complete practical learning and assessment activities in a real workplace environment relevant to disability or community services.

Includes:

  • A minimum of 245 hours of workplace-based learning
  • Conducted in a disability support or community care setting
  • Practical tasks and assessments aligned to unit requirements

Risen Star College provides guidance to support students in identifying suitable workplace opportunities; however, placement is not guaranteed.


Pre-Placement Requirements

Prior to commencing workplace-based learning, students may be required to obtain the following (as applicable to the workplace):

  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • National Police Check
  • Evidence of required vaccinations (e.g. Influenza, COVID-19, as required by the workplace)
  • Training in infection control and manual handling

Workplace Assessment and Work Placement

Workplace-based assessment is a key component of this qualification, allowing students to apply and demonstrate the knowledge and skills developed during their online learning in a real work environment.

All practical assessment tasks must be completed in a workplace relevant to the qualification, in accordance with training package requirements.

Requirements include:

  • Completion of compulsory workplace hours as specified in the course
  • Recording of workplace activities in a logbook
  • Verification and sign-off by an appropriate workplace supervisor
  • Demonstration of skills in a real workplace setting

Students are provided with a contextualised Skills Workbook to support the completion of workplace-based assessment tasks.

Assessment tools are reviewed and contextualised by the College to reflect:

  • The individual learner’s needs
  • The relevant workplace environment
  • Current industry practices

The Skills Workbook includes:

  • Workplace-based assessment activities
